When you’ve been living a very sedentary lifestyle but you then decide you want to get fit again, there might be some challenges that you face. You can’t just jump up out of nowhere and start working out hardcore (well, you could but your body will not be pleased). For most people, if you’ve been a couch potato, you’re going to want to ease into daily exercise.
Here are three ideas for daily exercise if you’ve been a couch potato:
1. Get walking. Seriously, walking is one of the easiest things you can do and it is one of the best ways to get back in shape after being a couch potato. It doesn’t put undue stress on your body and you can do it anywhere. Pokemon Go is a great reason to get out and walk. It’s a fun game that you play on your smartphone. You can learn more about playing Pokemon Go here. I like to go out with my little one, she loves it.
2. Increase your walks, instead of driving around to that little corner store, walk. The more you walk, the faster and better you will get at it. This is when you know it’s time to increase your walks. Go farther and go faster. I keep track of my steps using the Samsung Galaxy Gear S2. There are tons of pedometers out there that will help you track your steps and pace even. Check them out below.
3. Take up a sport, even if it’s just jumping rope or hula hooping, or you have a favorite sport as a kid or when you were in school? Is there a sport you’ve always wanted to try but never got around to it? This is a great time to give it a go and it gets you off the couch. You can have fun while burning calories and being active. You could even do a 30-day challenge like the one found here.
These simple ideas will get you up and moving, and off of the couch. Feel free to add to them, as well as do daily stretches to get your muscles limber again.
