In this video, I walk you through how to pull a basic image from a Google search and how to use it properly in Adobe Illustrator, how to create SVG files, and How To Make SVG files so you can use them in Cricut Design Space.

Also, I talk about how you can take an image that is in multiple pieces and mold them together so when you go to move your image you don’t have 30 different pieces to work with, you have one solid image.

All of these steps are very easy to do once you learn how to navigate and use Adobe Illustrator and you will know how to create SVG files. 

SVG stands for scalable vector image. Which is what Cricut users need to use to upload their own design files to upload into Cricut Design Space.

For instance, there are many SVG converters out there and some free online. Like Inkscape, but my favorite is Adobe Illustrator. I just personally feel like you have more options, just to clarify. And it’s easier I think in the long run once you get going. 

Why Should I Learn How To Make SVG Files?

There are a few reasons you may want to learn to make SVG files yourself. Above all, and 1 of the main reasons is to sell. There are a lot of places to sell your SVG files and make a passive income.

I do a lot of my crafts using my Cricut, and the Adobe Illustrators pairs nicely in giving me those really clean and crisp images I might want to use.


Whether it is making coasters, prints for a backdrop image, or more. I like to make vector designs that I can resize as big or as small as I want them without losing quality, so it was a necessity to learn how to make SVG files. 

In conclusion, the options are endless and you will get that store quality that will make your products stand out from the rest.

There are many image formats that you may start with and the quality is going to depend on the starting image size or file size. 

First, you should start with a, generally the png file formats. I rarely convert jpg to SVG files, I just don’t like the output.

SVG Files or scalable vector graphics are a wonderful way to use images for your Cricut or even Silhouette Machine. SVG files allow you to adjust and resize the image without distorting or losing any quality in the image.

So you can see why you should learn how to convert a file to SVG.

If you are working on creating an image or working on an image for your Cricut or Silhouette this is a great way to save and use your images.

The nice thing about having a Cricut is you can easily use SVG files for your machine. The Cricut is top of the notch and really helps you get those clean lines, and cuts precisely. I have done so many amazing crafts using my machine.

Can Cricut Cut Any Design?

What is so amazing about the Cricut is you can create your own images or use stock. The Cricut can indeed cut or print SVG files that you upload directly to your Cricut. Using Adobe Illustrator to learn how to design SVG files for your cutting machines like the Cricut Explore is a great way to also learn to design files.

Instructions

  1. Open Illustrator.
  2. You can either click on open, and upload the image.
  3. Go to file then click place.
  4. Go to the location of your file and click to open it.
  5. Once the file is open, in the top tool bar, click on trace.
  6. Use the drop down to select the number closest to the number of colors in your image then click expand.
  7. Holding down shift, select like colors and then go to object, compound path then make.
  8. Continue this until you have connected all colors.

Can you convert a JPEG to a SVG file?

If you convert from raster images like PNG or JPG, this SVG converter will convert your shapes and objects to black and white vector graphics that are scalable without any loss in quality. They can be later refined or colored with a free vector graphic program like Inkscape.
