How to Get Rid Of Gnats
If you love fruit but hate the gnats and fruit flies, feel free to try out this fruit fly trap hack! This is by far the best way to get rid of gnats in the house quickly and easily. How to Make A Trap To Get Rid of Gnats In The House
- Start by cleaning an empty plastic 2-liter bottle of soda. Make sure it is rinsed clean.
- Remove the plastic wrapper on the outside, so it shows a clear bottle.
- Then cut your bottle in half, this is a little tough, but once you break the plastic, it cuts easier.
- Turn the top portion of the bottle upside down, and place it inside the bottom part. Make sure the bottom of the bottle and top part don't touch.
- Then grab your mixture and pour into the base of your trap.
- Lay your upside down top portion in and secure it.
Then fruit flies and gnats will work their way down the bottle as they are attracted to the mixture in the bottom. When they do this, they will fall in and get trapped inside and die. When your bottle is full, or you are done using it, just toss it out. Then make a new one the next time you need it.

What can you do to keep gnats away?
I get asked a lot why use vinegar and soap. Well, the vinegar lures the gnats and fruit flies into your trap. The soap will help break the surface tension, and that means the fruit flies can't sit on top of the liquid. They then sink into the mixture and get caught per se. It is an affordable and accessible method, but it offers excellent results on how to get rid of gnats quickly!
What are gnats attracted to?
One minute they are here, and it appears fruit flies and gnats just magically appear. Fruit flies and gnats are attracted to fruit that is beginning to go bad. It ferments and produces an alcohol scent that lures them in.
The bad, part about this as the fruit flies and gnats eat away at the fruit they lay hundreds of eggs, which hatches into larvae within hours. So that is why you feel like they magically appear. Gross!
Best Vinegar For Your Fruit Fly and Gnat Trap
The best vinegar to use for your fruit fly trap is apple cider vinegar. There is something about that potent smell that just brings in the gnats and flies. If you don't have apple cider vinegar reach for distilled or even white wine vinegar. It won't work as quickly, but it will still get the job done.
How do you get rid of a gnat infestation?
Another way to get rid of gnats is to take a small bowl, add red wine and cover with saran wrap then cover in plastic wrap.
Poke holes in the saran wrap and sit near the source. The adult gnats will crawl into the holes and not be able to get out.
