    Coffee Around the World

Saying that the world runs on coffee may not be an understatement of any sort. In the United States, a quick walk through a public place in the morning will show people walking around with their cups of mocha, latté, cappuccino, or just regular coffee.

Large corporations like Starbucks and Caribou Coffee have popped up in every major city, and even the small mom and pop style coffee shops are thriving everywhere. Coworkers in the morning race for the coffee maker and keep it running throughout the day. The home brewing market is also thriving with all sorts of innovative home coffee brewing machines being sold nowadays.

With International Coffee Day in the United States coming on September 29 of this year, it is exciting to take a look at coffee traditions in other parts of the world, as well and to see how others across the globe drink their coffee. From neat traditions to exotic flavors, the world’s preferred beverage can be taken in a wide variety of spins to suit anyone’s taste buds.

We’ll start the journey in Turkey, where the local culture is entrenched in their coffee drinking. The Turks brew their coffee very strong and let their grounds settle on the bottom of their cups. Residents of Turkey take their coffee black and only add sugar to their drink. The country considers the beverage a social drink and even believes that once the cup is done, a drinker can learn their fortune from the grounds that remain in the bottom of their cup.

Italy is a country where the residents thrive on coffee, particularly espresso. Italy is the birthplace of espresso, a strong black coffee that is created by forcing steam through ground coffee beans. Italians order their preferred beverage with a layer of cream on top and usually drink it in small amounts because of the strength. Due to the nature of how it is made, the drink is created rather quickly and is a staple in the country’s coffee culture.

    Coffee Around the World

Irish coffee is also a staple in Ireland, and leave it to the Irish to be the people who mix coffee with alcohol. Though the popularity of this drink has spread into the United State with different recipes, the traditional drink in Ireland mixes Irish whiskey, whipped cream, and sugar with hot coffee. This sweet beverage can be a great start to the day on a vacation to Ireland—just plan accordingly after sampling.

In the African country of Ethiopia, where coffee was first discovered, the beverage is a cultural experience. The ceremonies that are held in the country to brew their coffee last several hours and the brewing is seen as a spiritual event. The Ethiopians add different spices to their beverage to give it a unique flavor to top it off.

Drinking coffee is a unique experience no matter where you go in the world. This international beverage comes can be taken in so many ways that it is no wonder of the differences in how it is enjoyed from country to country. If you’re looking for a coffee brand to try, I love and recommend Organo Gold. It keeps me energized throughout the day!
