Fajitas are so easy to make at home. We all love the authentic Mexican chicken fajitas from our favorite restaurant-style chicken fajitas. Why not learn to make them at home?
Of course, I decided to make a traditional fajita to break in the new skillet because it only felt right. If you want to know what that entails, stay tuned and maybe it will be the next thing you cook.
Cast Iron Skillet Fajitas
There are a lot of uses for your cast iron skillet that you may not have thought of yet. But of course, you can use it for your typical fajita making. There are a lot of ways that you can cook a fajita as well, but let me start with the basics.
If you are not really sure what a fajita consists of, allow me to enlighten you for a few brief moments here. By the end of this, you will be a fajita pro…I’m not sure if that exists but it will very soon.
What toppings go on fajitas?
Fajitas are full of protein and veggies, some spices snd seasonings. In this recipe I use:
- Chicken Breasts
- Onion
- Peppers
- Chili Powder
- Smoked Paprika
- Cumin
- Garlic Powder
- Salt
- Flour Tortillas
Cast Iron Chicken Fajita Recipe
Anyways, back to explaining the components of a fajita. Basically, it is a mix of peppers and onions that is typically served alongside a flour or corn tortilla. You also add some form of stripped, grilled meat to complete it.
The most common type of fajitas would be a chicken fajita. This also happened to be my favorite kind of fajita when cooked correctly. Luckily, you can have the tools to make it just the way it should be.
Easy Chicken Fajitas Recipe
Chicken fajitas are so easy to make. And if you want a little more healthy chicken fajitas then all you have to do is lower the carbs by removing or replacing the tortilla and now you have low carb chicken fajitas.

How To Make Cast Iron Chicken Fajitas
Restaurant-style chicken fajitas is a classic in this recipe we take that classic recipe and turn it into an at-home favorite!
Ingredients
- 3 Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts (chicken thighs work too)
- 1 Yellow Onion
- 1 Red Bell Pepper
- 1 Yellow Bell Pepper
- 1 Orange Bell Pepper
- 1 Poblano Pepper
- 1 teaspoon Chili Powder
- 1 teaspoon Smoked Paprika
- 1 teaspoon Cumin
- 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 2 tablespoon Olive Oil (optional)
- Flour Tortillas
Instructions
- Gather everything you need for the recipe.
- Add oil to the pan and heat on medium-high heat. Combine all your spices in a bowl and mix well. Use half of the spice mix to season the chicken in a bowl. Add the chicken to the hot skillet and cook your chicken until no longer pink.
- While your chicken cooks, cut the vegetables into strips.
- Once your chicken is cooked remove it set it aside. Add back to the skillet and add in the veggies, add in your vegetables and sprinkle them with the remaining seasoning. Saute the veggies until they start to caramelize, stirring or tossing occasionally.
- While the vegetables cook, slice the chicken into thin strips. As the vegetables are finishing, add your chicken back to the skillet and mix thoroughly. Remove from heat.
- Heat the tortillas and fill them with the chicken and veggie mixture. You can add a little of the excess marinade over the top.
Notes
Serve with avocados, sour cream, cilantro, salsa, and cheese. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge.
