Taco Pie has always been a favorite. Once I got my Instant Pot I knew I had to convert this recipe, and make instant pot taco pie!
And yall, this ain't your ordinary taco Tuesday taco dish! You have layers of meat mixture in between tortillas, the motherload of cheese, and topped with your favorite toppings.
We love to top ours with Nacho Cheese Doritos, sour cream, fresh avocado, tomatoes, and of course a little salsa. This is a super easy Instant Pot beef recipe that you can whip up any day of the week without heating up your house.
The Original Instant Pot Taco Pie Recipe
This recipe was an adaptation of a Taco Pie recipe I used to make in the oven. My kids loved it so it was only right to try it out in my IP.
I totally love that making this into an Instant Pot recipe meant leaving the large skillet where it sat. We love this Instant Pot Taco Pie! Everyone who tries it does too.
The flavors just marry perfectly together and it can be made in no time, so it makes it easy for the cook.
It is a complete meal all on its own, or add some chips and queso as a side and dinner is served.
This Instant Pot Taco Pie was amazing and super easy to make! Only 10 minutes after my pot came to the needed pressure. With October 4th being national taco day, this recipe came just in time!
You could easily swap out the ground beef for ground turkey. Even shredded turkey, chicken thighs or chicken breast, or spread some brown rice onto the tortillas.
And you can use corn tortillas instead of flour! Make it your own, it will still be amazing! Pressure cooking is easy! And so much fun!
The Original Instant Pot Taco Pie Recipe
I love the idea of having layers of meat, tortillas, and cheese, you get everything in each bite.
Step out from what you are used to and try this recipe out. You won't regret it. If you want to add some black beans with the meat mixture. Maybe canned corn even diced tomatoes, to add even more flavor to your taco pie.
I like to make mine basic and then add flavor by toppings.
My family loves having Instant Pot beef recipes handy to add to our meals because ground beef is something we have quite often.
I like to find new ways to use it so it doesn't feel like we are eating the same five dinners each week. I hope this new instant pot beef recipe helps you and your family too!

Helpful Tools For Creating This Recipe
Here are some items that I recommend if you are going to be making this recipe. I find these tools helpful in making the cooking a bit easier along the way.
Hamburger Meat Chopper| This is a great tool that I use anytime I want to get my meat ground up when cooking it. It breaks it down into small pieces perfectly and helps get the meat to a consistent size and helps all the meat cook through. I have used this for years.
Springform Pan| For me a springform is great because with the latch released you can lift the outside edge of the pan away, and you have that perfect looking taco pie. Then just slice your taco pie and serve it up for a beautiful presentation. This springform pan works great in my Instant Pot.
or
Stackable Stainless Steel Pressure Cooker Steamer| This could also replace what the springform pan does, except you can't remove the side of the pan, you would cut the taco pie in the dish and then serve it up.
Silicone Sling| This is great to use to lift your pan out of the Instant Pot without burning yourself. You sit this under your pan and then grab the handles and lift up with pot holders when your taco pie is done.

We made 2 of these before the first cook.
They were awesome and my try everything 12 year old boy and my 9 year old girl who devours almost anything loved this dish with 10's.

OK can you please let me know if the refried beans measurement is right? that seems super low. I used a whole can in mine. Just wondering if mine is going to be soggy..
Pink
The measurement is correct, I spread mine out very thin, my kids don't like the beans that well.
Terri
It does say you put a trivit in on the recipe.. So water, trivit and then set pan on trivet to cook? Thanks sounds wonderful, terri
Pink
Yes. I edited to add the trivet.
Michele L

I have made this recipe with shredded chicken and sweet corn in the layers... Very delicious.
Lisa
Thank you for sharing this recipe! We just tried it tonight and it turned out great!
kaypeabrokebaker
Thanks for sharing! This looks effing DELICIOUS! Ever tried it with corn tortillas? I prefer those to flour, but I'm wondering if they're a little to fragile for this endeavor.
Pink
Even when I made it in the oven, I have always used flour. My kids don't like corn, but they worked out perfect every time!
Pink
I think I've seen people try with corn
Alli
Kaypeabrokerbaker, Did you try it with corn tortillas? I was wondering how it turned out. If yes, soft or crunchy?

Looks delicious!! This might be a dumb question but do the flour tortillas come out crispy?
Jamela Porter
No they aren't crispy... I crush Doritos and add it to ours for the crunch.
Toni Snyder
Do I cover the pan with aluminum foil when I put it in the instant pot?
Pink
No, I mean you can but I never do.
Christina
Just made it. It was so good with corn tortillas but one I took it from the form it fell apart. How do you prevent that??
Pink
I have never had an issue with that, do you have a push pan or springform
Patti
Thank you Pink for this amazingly good recipe! We host Taco Day at our house and this will certainly be on the menu this weekend.
Christina, I'm glad to hear you
liked it when made with corn tortillas. I think corn would add another layer of flavor. I'm trying it this weekend.
I also added enchilada sauce drizzled over each layer. Yummo!
Roxanne
Made this tonight and it was a huge hit. Only thing I did differently was that I cooked it for 15 HP and 10 NPR. Came out amazing and will definitely make again.
Pink
Awesome this is definitely a blog favorite but also a favorite in my home.
Becky
What size tortillas do you use?
Pink
8 inch usually

Finally made this and it was great! I seasoned the refried beans (cumin, paprika, salt) and added corn and diced tomatoes to the ground (pork). My husband and toddlers ate it up!
Pink
Awesome, I'm so glad you guys liked it.

Thank you for this recipe. My Instant Pot® does not allow for high on manual. It is medium only. So I’m going to try 16 or 18 minutes. I’ve made this without beans for many years using Bueno brand or homemade red chile sauce, chopped yellow onions, and white cheese. So this will be nice in that baking takes over an hour at 375°. I also do not fry the corn tortillas to soften as you would for regular flat or rolled enchiladas, but may try that the next time. I also prepared the pan with an aluminum foil sling to help take it out, and covered the silicone springform pan with foil as recommended in many cheesecake recipes.
Cassie
What could I use in place of a springform pan?
Pink
Pyrex bowl works well too
Carrie
What amount of servings are most of your recipes? How many does it feed?
Jamela Porter
It just depends, we are a family of 4, so they usually feed 4, sometimes with leftovers.
Pam
I’m making this now. You didn’t list taco meat on the first layer – beans and cheese only. We like meat. Should we add it? I also wondered what you end with. Meat? Cheese? Tortilla?
Jamela Porter
Yes, end with cheese
Pam Boersema
I made this today for lunch using left over shredded chicken taco meat and threw in all my leftovers from dinner the other night, refried beans, tomatoes, cheese, black beans, etc. It came together quickly and was absolutely delicious! Hubby even loved it. Finished it off with cilantro leaves on the top to make it pretty. Thanks for the great recipe. I’ll be making this again.
Jamela Porter
I'm glad you liked it!

I made this last night in my 7 inch Fat Daddio push pan. I didn’t have any flour tortillas so I used corn tortillas instead. It turned out FABULOUS!! I ended up using the entire can of refried beans. I fried up an egg, put on top and am eating it right now with my breakfast. Thanks for sharing the tasty recipe.
Kate
A fried egg on top sounds amazing! Great idea!
Mamie
Awesome recipe! While my taco pie didn’t turn out as photogenic as yours, it tasted fantastic and was a huge hit. I’ll be making this one a lot – thank you!
Jamela Porter
Thank you, it's one of our favorites.
Becky
when you made it in the oven, what temp and for how long?
Jamela Porter
Maybe 30 mins. Or until the cheese is melted.
Linda
Awesome! My fourth official dish for the Instant Pot! Big hit with the family! Thank you!
Valerie
HI! I just got my Instant Pot yesterday. The springform pan I have is the Pampered Chef one with a glass base. Will that be okay, or do you think I need to get a stainless steel one? I use it in the oven…
Jamela Porter
You can use anything oven safe as long as it fits ☺
Valerie
Actually, nevermind. It's too big around, anyway, LOL. Guess I'll pick up a smaller one when I make my grocery run!
Pam
The grandkids are coming tonight and requested this Taco Pie. Has anyone done 2 at one time? Maybe with a rack in between?
Jamela Porter
I have done the minis, I think 4 at a time.

Fat Daddio 6" pans work well in the duo mini. No spring form latch to fiddle with, the bottom of the pan comes out. I like them a lot. 😃
Raquel
Did you use the trivet or not? I see yes and no...
Jamela Porter
I do use a trivet. Mine has handles makes it easier to get out
Rochelle
You say use a package of tortillas. I assume a small pkg of 6?
Jamela Porter
6 or 8
Sarah
Is it possible to double this recipe? I’m having 12 adults.
Jamela Porter
You can double the recipe but you will likely have to cook each pie by itself
JR
You have rescued me from a cooking rut. I had no idea what to make for dinner and didn't want to eat out tonight. This recipe came across my FB newsfeed and I actually had all of the ingredients on hand. My picky eater loves it and wants seconds. This is going on my weekly dinner rotation.
Jamela Porter
Ha ha!!! Awesome! If you are in either of my groups you should post a pic of yours and share! Either way I am super glad to help!
Edward Blocker
This was a real winner. I’m just learning to use my Instant Pot, and made this last night. It’s deceptively filling. Will definitely make this again.
Georgia
do you cover it?
Jamela Porter
You can but I never do.
Deborah
Excellent and delicious! Super easy. Thank you!
Hillary
Do leftovers reheat well? I only cook for myself so I'm wondering if this is more of a recipe to be eaten when it's first cooked or if I can save the leftovers. Thanks!
Jamela Porter
It’s like lasagna, better the second day
j sean
What a great receipe that is, Im glad i stumbled on this Taco Pie Recipe. But i want to ask if you cover it?
Jamela Porter
I don’t, but you can it won’t hurt.

Took forever to reach the bottom of replies. Must be the fact that everyone is freaking loving this as much as us! Thank you for such an awesome dinner idea!

I have just started using my Instapot more frequently, and I've been looking for more recipes to include more beef/iron in our diet. I found this recipe and decided to try it with some adjustments. I don't have a springform pan or inserts, so I put everything directly in the instapot with some vegetable oil on the bottom to add some liquid. It didn't cook quite right as my husband decided to look inside while it was on delay cook and forgot to set it back to seal, but even so, it turned out wonderfully! The next time I make it, he suggested beef strips and rice, so I'll be doing that with the refried beans. Thank you so much for a cheap easy recipe!
