A quick and easy homemade biscuit donut recipe that is your ticket to warm and fresh doughnuts any time of the day.
Top them with powdered sugar, a simple glaze, or a cinnamon-sugar mixture for the most delicious donuts you will have!
Growing up every now and again we were awarded a sweet breakfast. We always had a few cans of biscuits on hand and it was always a delight coming into the kitchen to the smell of homemade doughnuts.
At first, I would just sit and wait and as I grew older, I was taught how to make them. They are such an easy breakfast to make, and the best thing is that Pillsbury biscuits were already 1 of my favorite things!
This delicious recipe makes 8 donuts and 8 donut holes from 1 can of Pillsbury dough.
There are a few ways that you can cut the holes into the center of the biscuits. I like to use a small round cookie cutter, small biscuit cutter, or a shot glass.
Tips for Making Homemade Doughnuts
Donut holes | I used a shot glass to cut the hole in the center of my donuts. Now you can buy a really small cookie cutter to use that is a circle. This will give you a small donut hole that you can toss in and fry as well.
Check Oil | I use a candy thermometer when I fry because it is so easy for the oil to get too hot or not be hot enough. I try to heat to 350 degrees f. I do a test as well to drop one donut in and see if it bubbles, if it does the oil is ready.
Spacing | Make sure you allow spacing for the donuts. If you overfill your pan for frying it will lower the temperature too much of the oil and your donuts won’t be golden brown.
Another thing is you will have a hard time flipping them with tongs if there is no room.
If you have any leftover donuts, I usually don't, one of the easiest ways of storing them is in an airtight container on the counter. They will only last a few days though.

Biscuit Donut Recipe
Grab a can of biscuit dough and let’s create homemade donuts in a hurry. Trust me these easy canned biscuit donuts and donut bites are just as good as the ones you can buy at your favorite doughnut shop.
Ingredients
- 1 Can of Pillsbury Grands Biscuits
- 2 cups Vegetable Cooking Oil
Instructions
- Heat about 4 inches of oil on medium-high heat in a deep fry pan or deep fryer.
- I use a smaller 4 court pan to preserve oil (the wider your pan, the more oil you will have to use for deep frying)
- Open your can, separate biscuits, and lay them flat on a cutting board.
- Take your shot glass or other tool and press the open end down on the dough to cut out a hole in the center of each biscuit.
- Use cut-out middles to make doughnut holes.
- By the time you get done prepping your biscuits, your oil should be ready.
- To test drop one of the biscuit middles in the hot oil, if it bubbles it is ready for you to fill the oil.
- Do not overfill, you don’t want them to overlap.
- Let them cook for about 1 minute on each side (should be golden brown when you remove them from the oil.
