This is absolutely one of my favorite recipes to make in the Instant Pot. When you have a hard time deciding what to make when it comes to dinner, you can never go wrong with barbecue chicken.
You feel like you can sometimes get in a rut when it comes to making food. Maybe you just want something that is super simple to make and tastes amazing.
Easy and Delicious Instant Pot BBQ Chicken

So many think it is more difficult than it is and are missing out! This pressure cooker is a saving grace most nights for us.
Add in some potatoes done up in the air fryer and this meal comes out complete.
If you have some chicken, potatoes and onions that need to be used up, this is the perfect recipe.
This Instant Pot Chicken BBQ will be something that you will make again and again. It is really that good and simple for someone beginning with the Instant Pot.
You can use any barbecue sauce of your choice. I tend to go with one that has a little more spice or tang to it but this is all up to you!
This chicken can be used so many ways but my favorite is over top of crisp potatoes and covered with cheese. There is not another comfort meal that is this easy to make especially for a quick weeknight meal.
Instant Pot BBQ Chicken
I love that the potatoes and chicken can be made at the same time. There are not a lot of dishes to be dirty or pots and pans to be cleaned after the fact. All you need is an Instant Pot and Air Fryer!
The dry seasonings and onions on top of the chicken, while it cooks, makes it so flavorful. The juicy taste of the Instant Pot BBQ Chicken over top of the crunchy potatoes that have been cooked in oil is the perfect combination.
This meal will be one that will be on your meal planning menu more times than not.
If your family is anything like mine, they have the recipes and meals that they love. I know that my kids are always asking for this meal. I am positive that this will also be a hit in your home as well!

Instant Pot BBQ Chicken
Want easy and delicious bbq chicken in your instant pot? This recipe is amazingly easy and you can serve this instant pot chicken on a bun with your favorite bbq sauce or on a baked potato.
Ingredients
- 4 lb boneless, skinless chicken thighs
- 2 lb boneless skinless chicken breast
- 1 cup chicken stock
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ onion, chopped
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon liquid smoke
- 2 cups prepared barbecue sauce of your choice
Instructions
- Pour chicken stock into the liner of your electric pressure cooker.
- Layer the chicken on top and sprinkle with onions.
- Mix the dry seasonings and brown sugar together.
- Sprinkle over the chicken and onions.
- Cover the electric pressure cooker and set the valve to sealing.
- On your instant pot press manual making sure it is high pressure.
- Allow to pressure cook for 15 minutes.
- Allow the natural pressure release for 10 minutes before completely releasing the pressure with a quick release. When the chicken cooking cycle is complete, remove the chicken from the juices and shred with shredding claws.
- Stir in barbecue sauce sweet baby rays is my favorite.
- Serve over baked potatoes topped or on a bun.
Notes
Cut this Instant Pot BBQ Chicken Recipe in half to make less. But still use 1 cup of water.
