I started making my own smoothies a while back. I don't like to eat breakfast, so by lunch, I was starving to death and most of the time over did it when I did eat. After a week or so of smoothies I started talking about juicing, luckily I have 2 grandmothers who often times buy things and end up not wanting them, yay me, so I inherited a juicer, not really lol, I had to pay her for it.
I swear this is the best invention since peanut butter lol. The one I have is the Fusion Juicer which you can get here on Amazon for $119.95 shipped. This juicer came with EVERYTHING! Including a small blender for smoothies and recipe books.
Before I got this one I researched some others Here are a few budget-friendly juicers.
Cuisinart Compact Juice Extractor $99.99 at Bed Bath and Beyond
Hamilton Beach Big Mouth Juice Extractor $49.99 at Walmart.com
Oster® Juice & Blend 2 Go™ Juice Extractor & Personal Blender $39.99 at Target.com
These are just a few of the ones I found.
When I got it, I was so excited to get it there was no rhyme or reason to my juicing, I went and bought things I liked the taste of, and then researched the benefits.
Strawberries- Loaded with vitamins A B1, B2, B3, B5, B6 and C, beta-carotene, folic acid, calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium, zinc, and iron. Because of the high content of Vitamin C and folic acid, your entire immune system is boosted. The best part is that it's an appetite suppressant, yaaaasss!
Apples- Detoxes, helps with digestion, a natural sweetener (great to use to liven up your veggie juices.
Oranges- Gives a boost to the immune system due to the Vitamin C, helps maintain blood pressure and is an anti-inflammatory.
Pineapple- Anti-inflammatory, aids in digestion, antioxidant, boosts energy, the potassium promotes kidney health, helps to regulate blood sugar and supposedly helps with menstrual cramps.
Grapes- Anti-oxidant, and has anti-aging qualities
Grapefruit- Loaded with vitamin C, and has a lil of vitamins A, B complex, E and K, has fat burning enzymes.
I realized I only bought fruit lol, so I went back out and got
Carrots- vitamin A and beta carotene, is said to destroy pre-cancerous cells in tumors, rich in vitamin B and folates.
Kale- Rich in vitamins A, and C, is an antioxidant, has potassium, vitamin K and aids in normal blood clotting and bone health
Not much but it was a start.
The first thing I noticed, is that I had way more energy than normal, I work nights in a bar, plus I run 2 blogs, a small graphic design business and am the single mother of a boy, 15, and 2 girls 13 and 4, so energy is something I don't normally have.
I didn't have the desire to take naps throughout the day. Second I noticed that I was peeing alot, lol, I haven't researched this, but I have heard that happens when your body is getting rid of water weight.
I also wasn't hungry so quickly.
I will share some recipes as I come to them, I would love for you to leave your favorite combinations in the comments below.
My favorite combination, anything with strawberries lol, today I am drinking one mixes with Kale, Oranges, and Apples. Kale alone is was very bitter, but with the oranges and apples, yummy! You can get really creative with juicing. Make sure to subscribe next post will be what to do with all that pulp!
